Blue Devils Continue To Lead Women's Golf Championship

NEKOOSA, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stout continues to lead the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship after the second of three days of competition at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course on Oct. 4. Second round action was conducted on the Lakes Course of the facility’s 36-hole layout.
The Blue Devils have totaled 645 strokes over the first two days of the event, while defending champion UW-Eau Claire is second with 678 strokes. UW-Stout shot a 311 during the second round for the lowest round in championship history, surpassing the 314 shot by UW-Eau Claire in 2005. UW-Whitewater is third with 699 strokes, while UW-Oshkosh is fourth with 712, UW-Platteville fifth with 735, UW-River Falls sixth with 745 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 768. The winner of the WIAC championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 12-15, 2015, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Kate Engler still sits in first place with a two-day total of 157 strokes. She is the defending champion. UW-Stout’s Mariah Chesley is second with 158 strokes, while UW-Stout’s Brittany McNett-Emmerich is third with 159. UW-Stout’s Allison Van Heuklom and UW-Whitewater’s Sammie Leibham are tied for fourth with 165. A three-way tie for sixth place with 167 strokes includes UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Stone, UW-Oshkosh’s McKenzie Paul and UW-Stout’s Megan Ramp. UW-Whitewater’s Claudia Rhein is ninth with 169 strokes, while UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez and Maddy Paulsen are tied for 10th with 171.
The 54-hole championship will resume on Oct. 5 for the closing 18 holes. The 52-player field will return to the Pines Course (where the first round was held) for the final day with tee times starting at 10 a.m.
