UW-Oshkosh Captures Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Title

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh captured the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at UW-Platteville’s Track and Field Complex May 7.
UW-Oshkosh earned the 11th WIAC crown in program archives with 185 points. UW-Eau Claire took second with 143 points, four-time defending champion UW-La Crosse third with 133 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 102 points, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 96 points, UW-River Falls sixth with 83 points, UW-Stout seventh with 63 points, UW-Platteville eighth with 48 points and UW-Superior ninth with five points.
The Titans had four competitors combine to win six individual titles during the second day of events. Camille Davis won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash for the second straight year with times of 11.92 and 24.24, respectively.
Christy Cazzola established a conference meet record of 2:08.02 enroute to winning the 800-meter run. She was also victorious in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:39.24. Holly Ozanich captured the shot put for the third consecutive season with a heave of 48-4 3/4, while Breanna Strupp secured the discus with a toss of 149-8.
UW-Eau Claire had a quartet of individuals secure first-place medals. Kim Miresse won the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.63 and Talisa Emberts claimed the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.24. Erin Schoenfelder was triumphant in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:04.11, while Julia Baranek claimed the triple jump with a leap of 38-9 3/4.
UW-Stevens Point’s Claire Roberts won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:04.20, while UW-Stout’s Jessika Smith secured the heptathlon with 4,384 points and UW-Whitewater’s Shelby Demos earned the high jump for the second straight season with a height of 5-6.
In relay events, UW-La Crosse’s 4x100-meter relay team of Kailey Charlton, Caitlin Wipperman, Maggie May and Laurel Beck produced a first-place time of 47.36. UW-Platteville’s 4x400-meter relay quartet of Ann Tank, Stephanie Wyss, Shea Bierman and Deidre Dillman were victorious with a time of 3:52.85.
UW-Oshkosh’s Sue Trzebiatowski and UW-River Falls’ Colleen Kopel were named co-recipients of the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
The Larry Zirgibel All-Sportsmanship Team was selected for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire's Maria Peloquin, UW-La Crosse’s Leeanne Nowicki, UW-Oshkosh’s Sue Trzebiatowski, UW-Platteville’s Gabrielle Ethier, UW-River Falls’ Jenna Rice, UW-Stevens Point’s Jamie Clarkson, UW-Stout’s Emily Stenzel, UW-Superior’s Danielle Anderson and UW-Whitewater’s Amber Athey.
