UW-Whitewater’s Stensvaag Named Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete
MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Ingrid Stensvaag has been named the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete.
A senior from Palatine, Ill., Stensvaag boasts a 3.98 grade point average and is majoring in health, human performance and recreation with a minor in health promotion. She was named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Women’s At-Large Third Team and has been an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete the past two years. Stensvaag is a two-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and has been recognized on UW-Whitewater’s Dean’s List, while claiming the UW-Whitewater Academic Achievement Award every year.
Stensvaag, a team captain this season, has won two straight WIAC crowns at No. 2 doubles and claimed the No. 2 singles title in 2008. She has been a member of UW-Whitewater’s conference champion squads the last three years. Stensvaag was named her team’s Rookie of the Year during the 2007-08 campaign.
Stensvaag is a member of Golden Key Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Lambda, along with UW-Whitewater’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Optimist Club. She has volunteered with a youth tennis program and Women in Sports Day.
Also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award were: UW-Eau Claire's Gina Dahl (Sr., Fort Atkinson, Wis.), Courtney Lynne (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Brenna McCormick (Sr., Greendale, Wis.), UW-La Crosse's Carlie Bohrman (Sr., Oconomowoc, Wis.), Anna Schmidt (Sr., Wauwatosa, Wis./East) and Sarah Schoenwaelder (Sr., Racine, Wis./St. Catherine’s), UW-Oshkosh's Brittany Braasch (Sr., Ixonia, Wis./Watertown), UW-River Falls' Cassandra Wood (Sr., Wells, Minn./United South Central), UW-Stevens Point's Rachel Benn (Sr., Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Kaitlyn King (Sr., Plover, Wis./Stevens Point Pacelli) and UW-Whitewater's Michelle Daciolas (Sr., Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and Kelly Rutkowski (Sr., Waunakee, Wis.).
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she functioned as Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from October, 1984 - September, 1996.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be in their last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
