2014-15 WIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week


Week of Feb. 16 - 22
Track
Carly Fehler, Senior (Oak Creek, Wis.), of UW-Eau Claire
Fehler won the 60-meter dash by breaking her own school record in the process and helping the 4 x 200-meter relay to a first-place finish at the Big Dog Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point.  She won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.74, but it was her preliminary time of 7.70 that set the school record.  Prior to the meet, Fehler had set the school record of 7.73 on March 14, 2014 at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Lincoln, Neb.  Her time in the 60-meter dash currently ranks second in the nation.  Fehler was also a member of the 4 x 200-meter relay team that earned first place honors with a time of 1:43.65.

Shelby Mahr, Senior (Boyd, Wis./Stanley-Boyd), of UW-Whitewater
Mahr won both the weight throw and the shot put to help the No. 7-ranked Warhawks finish fourth at the seven-team Big Dawg Invitational at UW-Stevens Point.  Her toss of 62-0 1/4 in the weight throw broke her own school record and is the second-ranked mark in both the WIAC and NCAA Division III.  Mahr took the shot put with a result of 48-1 1/4.  She is also ranked second in the nation in the shot put with a throw recorded last week.

Week of Feb. 9 - 15
Track
Carly Fehler, Senior (Oak Creek, Wis.), of UW-Eau Claire
Fehler won two events and improved in the national rankings at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Showcase on Feb. 13.  She won the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.73, which is currently second in the nation and just .05 seconds off the fastest time in NCAA Division III.  Fehler also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.44.  Her time in the 200 also ranks second nationally.

Shelby Mahr, Senior (Boyd, Wis./Stanley-Boyd), of UW-Whitewater
Mahr finished as the runner-up in the shot put and weight throw with a pair of impressive performances as the No. 4 Warhawks placed third behind two other top five teams at the WIAC Quadrangular at Kachel Fieldhouse on Feb. 14.  Her toss of 48-3 1/4 in the shot put matched her own school record from earlier this season, while her mark of 60-9 1/4 was just three-fourths of a foot short of her own school record in the event.  Mahr’s results remain second in both the WIAC and NCAA Division III this season.

Week of Feb. 2 - 8

Meg Heafy, Junior (Reedsville, Wis.), of UW-La Crosse
Heafy won the 60-meter dash (7.75) and placed second in the 200-meter dash (25.73) as UW-La Crosse captured the eight-team Wartburg College (Iowa) Select Invitational held Feb. 6-7.  Her time of 7.75 on the 60-meter dash ranks second on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll, while her time of 25.73 in the 200-meter dash ranks ninth.  She is first on the WIAC Honor Roll in the 60-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash.

Taylor Sherry, Junior (Viola, Wis./Kickapoo), of UW-Oshkosh
Sherry broke a 15-year-old school record by totaling 3,466 points in the pentathlon at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational held Feb. 6-7.  She won the event of seven participants by nearly 300 points.  Brooke Linse of UW-Whitewater placed second with a score of 3,172.  Sherry’s performance, which ranks third in the NCAA Division III this season, featured event highs of 9.02 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, 17-0 1/2 (5.19m) in the long jump and 2:25.19 in the 800-meter run.

Week of Jan. 26 - Feb. 1

Taylor Sherry, Junior (Viola, Wis./Kickapoo), of UW-Oshkosh
Sherry finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time to help UW-Oshkosh capture the team title at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic held Jan. 31.  Sherry recorded a time of 8.89 seconds for the fourth-fastest NCAA Division III time in the 60-meter hurdles this season.  Madison Renfro of North Central College (Ill.) won the event of 32 participants with a time of 8.79 seconds.  UW-Oshkosh took first place in the team standings with 162 points. UW-Whitewater finished second with 97 and UW-Stevens Point third with 91.

Melanie Brickner, Senior (Marathon, Wis.), of UW-Oshkosh
Brickner won the 20-pound weight throw and finished fourth in the shot put to help UW-Oshkosh capture the team title at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic held Jan. 31.  Brickner defeated 32 other contestants in the 20-pound weight throw with her NCAA Division III-leading toss of 62-2 1/2 (19.06m). UW-Oshkosh teammate Jecel (Gerner) Klotz finished second with a mark of 57-5 1/2 (17.51m).  Brickner ranked fourth among the 34 shot put participants with her measurement of 44-9 (13.64m).  Klotz won the event with a throw of 50-0 3/4 (15.26m).  UW-Oshkosh took first place in the team standings with 162 points. UW-Whitewater finished second with 97 and UW-Stevens Point third with 91.

Laura Mead, Senior (Andover, Minn.), of UW-La Crosse
Mead captured the 5,000-meter run (17:21.73) at the North Central College (Ill.) Cardinal Open on Jan. 23.  Her time of 17:21.73 ranks second on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll and first on the WIAC Honor Roll.

Williams broke the UW-Platteville school record in the triple jump with a mark of 39-2 1/4 (11.94m) at the Pointer Triangular on Jan. 24.  This mark currently ranks first on the NCAA Division III national list.

Lexie Sondgeroth, Senior (Rochelle, Ill./Township), of UW-Whitewater
Sondgeroth won the 200-meter dash at UW-Whitewater’s Karl Schlender Invitational on Jan. 17, with a time of 25.56.  Her mark currently ranks first in both the WIAC and NCAA Division III. Sondgeroth also won the long jump with a leap of 18-3 1/4 to help the Warhawks win the five-team, season-opening invitational.

Jecel Klotz, Senior (Markesan, Wis.), of UW-Oshkosh
Klotz won the shot put and finished second in the 20-pound weight throw as UW-Oshkosh opened its season with a victory in a triangular with Lawrence University (Wis.) and Ripon College (Wis.) on Jan. 17.  She took first place in the shot put with a distance of 49-2 1/2 and second in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 56-6.  UW-Oshkosh totaled 150 team points, while Ripon College finished second with 51 and Lawrence University third with 50.
