Ross Denman, Sophomore (Madison, Wis./Wisconsin Heights), of UW-La Crosse
Denman captured the 200-meter dash (22.02) at the University of Wisconsin Red and White Open on Feb. 20. His time of 22.02 is first on the WIAC Honor Roll and tied for second on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll. Denman also ran the anchor leg on UW-La Crosse's first-place 4x400-meter relay (3:17.95) at the UW-Stevens Point "Big Dog" Invitational on Feb. 21. The relay time of 3:17.95 is first on the WIAC Honor Roll and third on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll.

Steen won the shot put by breaking his own school record set just two weeks ago at the Big Dog Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point. He won the event with a throw of 59-5 (18.11 meters) which was four feet and two inches farther than his next closest competitor. The toss broke Steen’s own school record of 58-6 3/4 (17.85 meters) set two weeks ago at the Pointer Invitational also hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Steen currently ranks second nationally in the shot put.

Paul VanGrinsven, Senior (Little Chute, Wis.), of UW-Stout
VanGrinsven ran a collegiate indoor best 14:30.59 in the 5,000-meter run at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Showcase on Feb. 13 to place third. The time is currently fourth in the nation and was 26 seconds better than his previous indoor best.

Dominique Neloms, Senior (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central), of UW-La Crosse
Neloms captured the high jump (7-0 1/2) and long jump (24-0 1/4) at the UW-Platteville Select on Feb. 14. He set a school record in winning the high jump, breaking the mark of 7-0 1/4 set by Bruce Reynolds in 1992. Neloms ranks first in the high jump and long jump on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll and WIAC Honor Roll.

Thurgood Dennis, Senior (Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame), of UW-Eau Claire
Dennis competed in the 200-meter dash for the first time this year winning the event at the Pointer Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point. He won the event in 22.13, which is the fastest time in all of NCAA Division III this season. Dennis was also a member of the first-place 4 x 400-meter relay team who completed the race in a time of 3:20.18, which is currently the fifth-fastest time in NCAA Division III.

Steen won the shot put at the Pointer Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point, setting a school record in the process. He claimed the event with a throw of 58-6 3/4 (17.85 meters), which was more than 14 inches further than his next closest competitor. Steen broke the school record of 57-8 1/4 feet (17.58 meters) set by John Schuna on January 29, 2005 at UW-Whitewater. His record-setting throw currently ranks second nationally in NCAA Division III.

Roberto Lara, Freshman (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), of UW-Oshkosh
Lara won the mile run to help UW-Oshkosh place third in the team standings at the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational held Jan. 30. He remained undefeated in the mile run this season by winning the event with a personal-best time of 4:12.13. The performance also ranks as the third fastest in the NCAA Division III this season. UW-Whitewater's Dawson Miller finished second among the event's 43 participants with a time of 4:12.19. UW-La Crosse won the nine-team meet with 145 points, while UW-Whitewater finished second with 104, UW-Oshkosh third with 78 and UW-Stevens Point fourth with 73.5.

Brandon Zarnoth, Senior (Appleton, Wis./North), of UW-Eau Claire
Zarnoth won four of seven events to win the heptathlon with a score of 5,339 points at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout. Zarnoth won all four field events jumping 6-4 3/4 (1.95 meters) in the high jump, 22-1 3/4 (6.75 meters) in the long jump, clearing 14-7 1/4 (4.45 meters) in the pole vault and throwing 43-1 3/4 (13.15 meters) in the shot put. Zarnoth finished second in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles posting times of 7.08 and 8.59 seconds, respectively, while finishing fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:55.30. Currently Zarnoth ranks first in the nation in the heptathlon with his score which is 100 points more than his next closest competitor.

Naji Allan, Junior (Sheboygan, Wis./North), of UW-Oshkosh
Allan won both sprint events to help UW-Oshkosh finish third at the North Central College Cardinal Opener held Jan. 23 in Naperville, Ill. Allan defeated 25 other runners in the 60-meter dash with his time of 6.94 seconds. UW-Whitewater’s Pat Chatman finished second with a time of 7.03 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Allan beat 34 other participants with his time of 22.34 seconds. Carthage College’s Mike Brown finished second with a time of 22.62 seconds. North Central College captured the team title with 189 points, while UW-Whitewater finished second with 145 and UW-Oshkosh third with 129. Carthage College placed fourth among the five competing teams with 75.5 points.

For the second week in a row, Riggs vaulted a lifetime PR of 16-1 1/4 (4.91m) at the Pointer Triangular. That mark currently ranks fourth on the NCAA Division III performance list.

Mike Judd, Senior (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence), of UW-Whitewater
Judd won the 60-meter hurdles at UW-Whitewater’s season-opening Karl Schlender Invitational on Jan. 17, with a time of 8.25. His mark currently ranks No. 1 in the WIAC and is currently the fifth-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. Judd was also part of the Warhawks’ 4x400-meter relay, which placed fourth of nine teams. His performance helped UW-Whitewater place first at the six-team meet.

Robert Starnes, Freshman (Green Bay, Wis./Preble), of UW-Whitewater
Starnes won two events in the first collegiate meet of his career at UW-Whitewater’s Karl Schlender Invitational on Jan. 17. His mark of 23-6 1/4 won the long jump and is currently the largest jump in the WIAC and ranks No. 1 in NCAA Division III this season. Starnes also won the high jump with a jump of 6-7 1/2, which ranks first in the WIAC and ninth in the nation. His performance helped the Warhawks win the six-team meet.
