WIAC Announces Landmark Broadcast Agreement

Madison, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced today that it has reached an agreement with When We Were Young Productions (WWWYP) to produce and distribute for television broadcast a number of WIAC athletics events during the 2006-07 academic year.

The conference-wide agreement, believed to be the first of its kind in the history of Division III athletics, will provide for the tape-delay telecast of each of the WIAC championships and postseason tournaments and as many as 50 regular-season events with the fall events scheduled to appear on Fox Sports Net North (FSN). The agreement also includes provisions for expanding into video streaming events over the internet as well as the establishment of a WIAC on-line merchandise store.

"We are extremely excited about the prospect of bringing the incomparable success and competitive spirit of the WIAC directly to a statewide audience," commented WIAC commissioner, Gary Karner. "A comprehensive agreement of this nature would not be possible were it not for the fact that both WWWYP and FSN have recognized the programming value of the WIAC. As such, we were able to craft an agreement that encompasses every WIAC sport and provides for an equitable distribution of telecasts among all nine institutions", added Karner.
