UW-Whitewater’s Goodwin and UW-La Crosse’s Schetter Receive Recognition From Inside Wisconsin Sports Magazine

Inside Wisconsin SportsMADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Matt Goodwin has been named the 2008 College Male Athlete of the Year by Inside Wisconsin Sports magazine, while UW-La Crosse’s Caitlin Schetter was runner-up for the women’s award.

Goodwin, a native of Milwaukee, Wis. (King), claimed Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year honors.  He garnered All-America First Team recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches and All-America Third Team laurels from D3hoops.com.  Goodwin averaged 17.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 assists in 27 games to direct the Warhawks to the WIAC regular-season and tournament championships.

Jerel McNeal of the Marquette University men’s basketball team was runner-up for the men’s award.

A native of Kiel, Wis., Schetter was named the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Midwest Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.  During the indoor season, she won the national title in the long jump and claimed the conference crown in the triple jump enroute to earning WIAC Field Performer of the Meet accolades.

In outdoor competition, Schetter was a three-time All-American.  She finished second in the long jump, eighth in the triple jump and was a member of the sixth-place 4x100-meter relay squad.

Traci Edwards of the UW-Milwaukee women’s basketball team won the women’s award.
