Wilson Named Tom Butler Award Recipient

Jay Wilson and Tom ButlerMadison, Wis.--Longtime sports director Jay Wilson has been named the recipient of the 2006-07 Tom Butler Award from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).   He was presented the award at the conference’s annual Football Media Day on August 7.

Wilson served as sports director at WKOW-TV 27 in Madison from 1987-07 and began working at the station in 1980.  He also completed a stint as weekend sports anchor at WISN-TV in Milwaukee from 1984-87.

He has served as a broadcaster for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments for 24 years and was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994.

A native of Vesper, Wis., Wilson graduated from UW-Madison in 1980 with a bachelor of science degree in broadcast journalism.

The Tom Butler Award has been presented annually by the conference since 1998 and is voted on by the conference's sports information directors.  The award is given to a representative of the print or electronic media who is considered to have provided outstanding coverage to WIAC athletics.  The honor is dedicated to Tom Butler, who served the conference faithfully for nearly three decades as its sports information director.
