Four To Be Inducted Into UW-Platteville Hall of Fame

UW-PlattevillePlatteville, Wis.--Four people will be inducted into UW-Platteville’s Athletic Hall of Fame this year on Saturday, Nov. 3, bringing total membership to 179.

The inductees this year include Shawn Frison, Stephanie (Sullivan) Gilmore, George Olson, and Jerry Petitgoue.

Frison, Class of 1992, was a two-time all-conference basketball player who led the Pioneers to the 1991 NCAA III National Championship. He was the Final Four MVP after scoring 22 points, including the game-winner with six second remaining, in the 96-94 semifinal win over Otterbein. Frison added 20 points in the 81-74 national championship win over Franklin&Marshall. He finished his career as the 10th all-time leading scorer in Pioneer history with 1,224 points and averaged 23.2 points per game in NCAA III tournament. In 1990, he earned the NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.

A three-time all-conference basketball player, Gilmore, also the Class of 1992, holds six school records: most points in a game, most field goals in a game, most points in a career, most field goals in a career, most free throws in a career, and most games played in a career. She was also a two-time all-defensive team selection in the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and all-time leading scorer in Pioneer history with 1,805 points. Gilmore helped lead the team to a 65-43 record and in 1989 helped the Pioneers win conference championship. Her 42 points against UW-Oshkosh in 1992 still stands as the school’s best scoring output.

Olson, Class of 1970, was a nine-time conference swimming champion. He dominated the 200-yard butterfly event, winning the conference race all four years he competed. Olson also won the Wisconsin State University Conference’s 100-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle, the 1,000-yard freestyle (twice) and the 400 medley relay over the course of his stellar pool career. He earned 10 NAIA first teams honors over his four years and placed 14th in the NAIA finals in 1968 for the 200-yard butterfly.

Petitgoue, Class of 1968, is Cuba City High School’s outstanding basketball coach. He is the winningest coach in Wisconsin high school basketball history with 700 wins and three state championships. He has guided the Cubans to 21 conference championships and the state titles in 1981, 1991 and 1998. Petitgoue was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003, and in 2005 was chosen as Wisconsin’s all-time high school coach, as selected by the WBCA and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Petitgoue, who also earned his master’s degree from UW-Platteville, has been named Wisconsin coach of the year nine times and currently is the Executive Director of the WBCA.
