Five Ranked in Top 31 of Directors’ Cup Standings

United States Sports AcademyMadison, Wis.--Five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools are ranked in the top 31 of the 2006-07 United States Sports Academy Directors’ Cup standings following the completion of the winter sports season.

The standings recognize the best NCAA Division III overall athletics programs in the country.

UW-La Crosse leads the WIAC contingent, ranking seventh with 511 points, followed by UW-Stevens Point in 10th with 400.50 points, UW-Oshkosh in 20th with 306.50 points, UW-Whitewater in 30th with 273 points and UW-Eau Claire in 31st with 272 points.

UW-Platteville is ranked 48th with 209 points, while UW-River Falls has totaled 62 points.

Williams College (Mass.) leads the national standings with 704.50 points.  The Ephs have won eight straight Directors’ Cup titles and 10 in the last 11 years.  Middlebury College (Vt.) is second in this year’s rankings with 664.50 points, followed by Washington University (Mo.) with 628.50 points, Amherst College (Mass.) with 602.25 points and New York University with 532.50 points.

The United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
