MADISON, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Ben Boots was tabbed the Player of the Year to lead the individuals chosen to the 2019 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Basketball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Oshkosh’s Matt Lewis was selected the Coach of the Year.

Boots is the fifth player in program history to secure the honor, joining John Lallensack (1968), Ralph Sims (1977 and 1978), Tim Dworak (2002 and 2003) and D.J. Marsh (2009). He claimed first team recognition for the third consecutive season and ranks second in the conference with 4.00 assists per contest, 2.62 three-point field goals made per game and a .890 free-throw percentage, third with 15.7 points per contest and 31.96 minutes per game and eighth with a .386 three-point field goal percentage.  Boots has reached double figures in scoring in 24 of 26 games, including a season-high 31 points against St. Norbert College (Wis.) on Dec. 18, 2018 and UW-Stout on Jan. 5, 2019.

Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included:  UW-La Crosse’s Ben Meinholz; UW-Oshkosh’s Jack Flynn; and UW-Platteville’s Robert Duax (Player of the Year). Duax was also a first team honoree in 2017, along with UW-Stevens Point’s Ethan Bublitz.

Lewis claimed the coaching award in his first season in charge of the Titans. He led the squad to its 13th WIAC regular-season championship – and first outright title since the 1977-78 campaign. UW-Oshkosh also earned a bid into the NCAA Division III Championship for the fourth consecutive year and put together a program-best 21-game winning streak – the fourth longest in conference history.

UW-La Crosse’s Taulvish McCray and UW-Stevens Point’s Brett Tauber earned a spot on the five-member All-Defensive Team for the second straight year.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
