UW-Stout Leads Women’s Golf Championship
REEDSBURG, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stout, the defending champion, owns the advantage following the first of three rounds at the 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship (Presented by Culver’s) at Reedsburg Country Club on Oct. 6.
The Blue Devils compiled 319 strokes during the first 18 holes to hold a narrow three-stroke lead over UW-Whitewater (322 strokes). UW-Oshkosh is third with 324 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire is fourth with 325, UW-River Falls fifth with 343, UW-Platteville sixth with 349 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 379. The team winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 8-11, 2018, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Individually, UW-Oshkosh’s Micayla Richards tops the 52-player field with 75 strokes. UW-Stout’s Trystin Kluess is second with 78 strokes. A three-way tie for third place with 79 strokes includes UW-Whitewater’s Ashley Hofmeister, the defending medalist, UW-Eau Claire’s Ashli Stolen and UW-Whitewater’s Kristin Bowe. UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez and Madison McCambridge, UW-Oshkosh’s Kayla Priebe and UW-Whitewater’s CheyAnn Knudsen are tied for sixth with 80 strokes. Rounding out the top 10 with 81 strokes are UW-Eau Claire’s Jessica Rudnicki, UW-Stout’s Marie Allo and UW-Whitewater’s Kelly Storti.
The 54-hole championship will resume on Oct. 7 with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
