UW-La Crosse Leads Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis.--Four-time defending champion University of Wisconsin-La Crosse owns the lead following the first of two days of competition at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Rex Foster Track Complex and Fiskum Field on May 6.
 
The Eagles have compiled 50 points through the first six scored events. UW-Stout sits in second with 35 points, while UW-Oshkosh is third with 32, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 31, UW-Whitewater fifth with 30, UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point are tied for sixth with 26 and UW-River Falls is eighth with four.

Caycee Bean led UW-La Crosse’s first-place effort by winning the javelin with a toss of 121-10.
 
UW-Oshkosh had a pair of first-place performances by Hannah Kuenzi in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:18.70 and Lizzy Abhold in the hammer throw with a fling of 186-0.
 
UW-Platteville’s Amber Williams captured the long jump for the second straight season with a leap of 18-1 3/4.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Tommie Brenner was victorious in the pole vault with a height of 12-8 1/4, while UW-Whitewater’s Amy Kahl won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:17.51. Kahl’s victory in the event is the first in program history for the Warhawks.
