UW-Platteville Owns Advantage At Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship
WHITEWATER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Platteville owns the advantage following the first of two days of competition at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Rex Foster Track Complex and Fiskum Field on May 6.
UW-Platteville has accumulated 51 points through the first six scored events. UW-La Crosse, the 25-time defending champion, is second with 45.5 points, while UW-Whitewater is third with 38, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 35, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 34, UW-Stout sixth with 19, UW-River Falls seventh with 6.5 and UW-Eau Claire eighth with five.
UW-Platteville had a trio of first-place performances as Ian LaMere captured the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:33.96, while Evan Rossing won the javelin with a toss of 173-7. Matthew Dwyer was victorious in the pole vault with a height of 17-2 1/4. Dwyer’s title in the event was the first for the program since 1992.
UW-Whitewater’s Robert Starnes secured the long jump with a leap of 23-4, while teammate Zach Stockheimer won the hammer throw with a fling of 188-8.
UW-Oshkosh’s Jordan Carpenter produced a winning time of 9:10.19 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
