UW-La Crosse Secures Fourth Straight Women’s Indoor Track & Field Crown

OSHKOSH, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse secured its fourth straight title at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at UW-Oshkosh’s Kolf Sports Center on Feb. 27.
 
The Eagles collected the 24th league championship in program history with 162 points to exceed UW-Eau Claire second-place total of 104.50 points. UW-Stout took third with 103 points, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 93.50, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 80, UW-Platteville sixth with 58, UW-Whitewater seventh with 50.50 and UW-River Falls eighth with 11.50.

UW-La Crosse won three individual titles during the second day of events. Meg Heafy was a double-winner after securing the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 7.67 and 24.86, respectively.  Her time in the 60-meter dash established a conference-meet record. Claire Gordee won the 60-meter hurdles for the second straight year and set a conference-meet record with a performance of 8.66.
 
UW-Stout also had three individual winners as Laurisa Titterud was victorious in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.43, while Lydia Meier won the 20-pound weight throw with a fling of 62-9 1/2. Emma Sapiro posted a first-place finish in the pentathlon with 3,163 points.
 
UW-Platteville’s Amber Williams won the triple jump for the second straight year with a leap of 39-4 1/2, while UW-Stevens Point’s Holly Winberg claimed the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:18.92.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s 4x400-meter relay foursome of Jessie Reineck, Ashleigh Buergi, Sarah Glidden and Jess Rupnow established a WIAC-meet record time of 3:50.12 enroute to victory.
  
UW-La Crosse’s Bria Halama received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award, which is sponsored by Badgerland Financial.
 
All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Clara Williamson; UW-La Crosse’s Shelby Graham; UW-Oshkosh’s Melanie Wichman; UW-Platteville’s Chelsey Heiden; UW-River Falls’ Sherahlynn Linkert; UW-Stevens Point’s Shannon Burke; UW-Stout’s Emma Sapiro; and UW-Whitewater’s Enyo Amet.
