UW-Stevens Point Maintains Advantage At Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship
BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point maintained its lead following the second of three days of events at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 19.
The Pointers have accumulated 591 points through 13 events to exceed UW-Whitewater’s second-place total of 459.50 points. UW-Eau Claire is third with 401.50 points, UW-La Crosse fourth with 382 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 155.
UW-Stevens Point’s Grant Moser secured the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.31 and was a member of the victorious 800-yard freestyle relay team. His team also included Garrett Richetto, Caleb Miller and Nate Somers and posted a time of 6:48.78.
The Pointer foursome of Kyle McNair, Jack Englehardt, Brandon Richardson and Reilly Donnellan established a conference-meet record of 1:29.92 enroute to winning the 200-yard medley relay.
UW-Eau Claire’s Ben Fisher won the 100-yard breaststroke for the second straight year with a time of 56.85, while Dayton Miller claimed the 400-yard individual medley in 4:06.34 and Thomas Hensen was triumphant in the 100-yard backstroke in 51.03.
UW-La Crosse’s Tanner Folvag won the three-meter diving competition with a score of 470.85 and UW-Whitewater’s Josh Kanute claimed his second straight championship in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.17.
All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Thomas Hensen; UW-La Crosse’s Ryan Neighbauer; UW-Oshkosh’s Grady Hilgendorf; UW-Stevens Point’s Caleb Miller; and UW-Whitewater’s Alex Gidlow.
