UW-La Crosse Leads Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship
BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of La Crosse, the four-time defending champion, owns the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Eagles have compiled 265 points through six events to top UW-Eau Claire’s second-place total of 237 points. UW-Whitewater is third with 209 points, while UW-Stevens Point is fourth with 150 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 86.
UW-Eau Claire’s Samantha Senczyszyn established a conference-meet record of 2:01.82 enroute to winning the 200-yard individual medley, while Allison Hable posted a first-place time of 23.49 in the 50-yard freestyle. Hable also won the 50-yard freestyle at the 2014 championship. Senczyszyn, Hable and Jessica Short were also members of the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay teams.
They were joined on the 200-yard freestyle relay by Ellie Hostetler and posted a time of 1:33.92. The 400-yard medley relay foursome achieved a time of 3:49.14 and included Hannah Sisto.
UW-Stevens Point’s Amanda Walker claimed the 500-yard freestyle for the third straight year with a performance of 4:59.42. She is the fourth individual in WIAC archives to win the event three times.
UW-Whitewater’s Sierra Becker had a conference-meet record score of 460.70 to win the one-meter diving event for the fourth straight year. She is the second person in league history to claim the title four straight times, joining UW-Madison’s Peggy Anderson (1973-76).
