UW-Stevens Point Leads Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship
BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the 16-time defending champion, has the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Pointers have amassed 246.50 points through five events, while UW-Eau Claire is second with 175.50, UW-Whitewater third with 170, UW-La Crosse fourth with 139 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 62.
UW-Stevens Point’s Jack Englehardt claimed the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.65, while Nate Somers captured the 500-yard freestyle in 4:31.16 and Joe Hollman the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.88. Hollman won the 200-yard individual medley for the second straight year. Englehardt also contributed to the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team that had a conference-meet record performance of 1:21.47. He was joined by Andrew King, Kyle McNair and Reilly Donnellan.
UW-Eau Claire’s Thomas Hensen, Ben Fisher, Ryan Young and Logan Coert teamed to win the 400-yard medley relay in 3:23.77.
