WIAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Awards Revealed
MADISON, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners for the 2015 men’s outdoor track & field season based on voting by the league coaches.
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Thurgood Dennis was chosen the Track Performer of the Meet, while UW-Whitewater’s Mike Cournia was named the Field Performer of the Meet and UW-La Crosse’s Josh Buchholtz earned the Coach of the Year honor.
Dennis also received the award in 2012 and 2013 and joins UW-La Crosse’s Andrew Rock (2001, 2003, 2004) as the only individuals in WIAC history to claim the honor three times. This year, he won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with conference meet record performances of 10.12 and 20.61, respectively. He also contributed to the first-place 4x100-meter relay team.
Cournia captured the triple jump with a leap of 49-6 1/4 and took third in the high jump with leap of 6-7 1/2. He added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 23-8. Cournia is the fifth Warhawk to secure the conference’s Field Performer of the Meet honor.
Buchholtz collected the coaching honor for the seventh consecutive season after leading the Eagles to their 25th straight WIAC crown. UW-La Crosse won eight individual titles during the two-day championship.
