UW-La Crosse Leads Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship
LA CROSSE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the 24-time defending champion, owns the advantage following the first of two days of competition at the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on May 1.
The Eagles compiled 66.83 points to exceed UW-Stout’s second-place total of 59.5 points. UW-Whitewater is third with 38 points, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 34, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 25, UW-Platteville sixth with 23, UW-Oshkosh seventh with 12.33, UW-Superior eighth with 12 and UW-River Falls ninth with 2.33.
UW-La Crosse earned first-place performances from Dominique Neloms in the long jump and Grant Havard in the hammer throw. Neloms won the event for the second straight year with a mark of 24-9 1/4, while Havard was victorious with a fling of 194-10.
UW-Stout also had a pair of title winners as Patrick Jenkins claimed the 10,000-meter run for the second consecutive year with a time of 30:50.42. Christian Lucchesi achieved a height of 16-5 1/4 enroute to capturing the pole vault.
UW-Whitewater’s Dawson Miller produced a conference meet record time of 8:57.89 to become the first individual in WIAC history to win three 3,000-meter steeplechase crowns.
UW-Platteville’s Daniel Poh successfully defended his title in the javelin with a toss of 187-10.
UW-Eau Claire’s 4x800-meter relay foursome of Ryan Graham, Erik Rosvold, Brendon Paucek and Josh Thorson took first with a time of 7:42.28.
