UW-La Crosse Owns Advantage At Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship
PLATTEVILLE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the two-time defending champion, owns the lead after the first of two days of competition at the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship at UW-Platteville’s Williams Fieldhouse on Feb. 27.
The Eagles amassed 84 points through the first eight scored events to surpass UW-Oshkosh’s second-place total of 55 points. UW-Stevens Point is third with 46 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 42, UW-Stout fifth with 41, UW-Platteville sixth with 20, UW-Whitewater seventh with 13, UW-River Falls eighth with 10 and UW-Superior ninth with one.
UW-La Crosse captured both relay events during the first day of competition. The 4x200-meter relay team of Jaime Ludwigson, Laura Muzia, Claire Gordee and Meg Heafy established a conference meet record of 1:41.17. The distance medley relay unit of Rachel Atchison, Kaitlyn Francour, Valerie Jones and Laura Mead had a time of 12:09.10.
UW-Stout earned a pair of individual titles as Laurissa Titterud was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.96, while Kathleen Thorn posted a first-place time of 17:52.19 in the 5,000-meter run.
UW-Eau Claire’s Lucy Ramquist won the one-mile run with a time of 4:57.40 and UW-Oshkosh’s Melanie Brickner claimed the shot put with a heave of 48-0 3/4. UW-Platteville’s Amber Williams won the long jump with a leap of 19-0 3/4, while UW-Stevens Point’s Shannon Burke captured the pole vault for the second straight year with a height of 12-0.
