UW-Stevens Point Splashes To Lead At Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the 15-time defending champion, grabbed the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 19.
The Pointers claimed two individual and two relay crowns as they compiled 234 points. UW-La Crosse is second with 191 points, UW-Whitewater third with 158, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 145 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 64.
UW-Stevens Point’s Sam Jekel claimed the 50-yard freestyle for the second straight year with a time of 20.68, while Joe Hollman was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:52.79.
Jekel also contributed to the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-medey relay units that posted times of 1:22.32 and 3:22.11, respectively. He was joined by Andrew King, Zachary Ogurek and Kyle McNair on the 200-yard freestyle relay, and Ogurek, Ethan Bott and Hans Peters on the 400-yard medley relay.
UW-Whitewater’s Josh Kanute established a conference-meet record of 4:31.13 enroute to winning the 500-yard freestyle.
