--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater captured its fourth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) wrestling championship at Kolf Sports Center Fieldhouse on Feb. 15.

The league crown for the Warhawks is the conference-leading 16th in program history.  UW-Whitewater compiled 162.50 points enroute to the team title to surpass UW-La Crosse’s second-place total of 138.50 points.  UW-Stevens Point placed third with 109.50 points, UW-Platteville fourth with 59, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 45 and UW-Eau Claire sixth with 40.50.

The Warhawks claimed five of the 10 individual weight class titles.  Jimmy Nehls won the 141-pound crown with a 5-3 overtime victory over UW-La Crosse’s Cody See, while Elroy Perkin earned a 6-4 decision at 149 pounds over UW-La Crosse’s Kasey Einerson.
 
Tom Gerszewski secured the 157-pound title with a 15-0 technical fall (5:56) over UW-Stevens Point’s Anthony Friese and Ryan Aprahamian posted a 3-1 win over UW-La Crosse’s Richard Carlson at 184 pounds.  Anthony Edgren was victorious at 285 pounds with a 9-0 decision over UW-Stevens Point’s Bo Seibel.
 
UW-La Crosse had four individuals emerge with first-place plaques at the meet.  Ryan Weinmann secured the 125-pound bracket with a 5-4 double overtime decision over UW-Platteville’s Cole Ferguson, while Martino Balsiger earned the 133-pound title with a 11-10 victory over teammate Dustin Weinmann.
 
Tyler Schneider won the 165-pound crown with a 8-4 triumph over UW-Whitewater’s Connor Price and Eric Twohey beat UW-Whitewater’s Shane Siefert in the 197-pound title match with a 4-2 sudden victory overtime two.
 
UW-Platteville’s Trenton Larson won the 174-pound championship by injury default over UW-Whitewater’s Jordan Newman. 

UW-La Crosse’s Eric Twohey was selected the John Peterson Wrestler of the Meet and Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award winner, while UW-La Crosse head coach Dave Malecek was chosen the Mertz Mortorelli Coach of the Year.

All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Mat Rieckhoff; UW-La Crosse’s Derek Weinmann; UW-Oshkosh’s Korey Kleinhans; UW-Platteville’s Robbie Kerr; UW-Stevens Point’s Michael Bannach; and UW-Whitewater’s Cameron Loomis.
