UW-Oshkosh Claims Women’s Cross Country Championship
WINNECONNE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh claimed the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Cross Country Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Lake Breeze Golf Club on Oct. 31.
The Titans won the 16th league title in program history - and first since 2000 - with 47 points to surpass the second-place total of 51 points by two-time defending champion UW-La Crosse. UW-Eau Claire placed third with 72 points, UW-Stout fourth with 91, UW-Platteville fifth with 99, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 187, UW-Whitewater seventh with 187 and UW-River Falls eighth with 230.
UW-Eau Claire’s Lucy Ramquist captured the individual title, completing the 6,000-meter course with a time of 21:56.56. She is the third Blugold to take first-place honors, joining Katie Somers (1984) and Chris Goepel (1985). A total of 94 runners completed this year’s race.
UW-Stout’s Kathleen Thorn finished second in 22:06.46, UW-Oshkosh’s Kylee Verhasselt third in 22:22.88, UW-Eau Claire’s Clara Williamson fourth in 22:27.62, UW-La Crosse’s Rebecca Voss fifth in 22:28.37, UW-La Crosse’s Kaitlyn McDaniel sixth in 22:36.24 and UW-Oshkosh’s Hannah Kuenzi seventh in 22:39.79.
UW-Platteville’s Chelsey Heiden placed eighth in 22:42.38, UW-Oshkosh’s Danica Harrison ninth in 22:48.66, UW-La Crosse’s Elizabeth Frick 10th in 22:50.28, UW-Platteville’s Kiera Depies 11th in 22:52.17, UW-Stout’s Morgan Sweeney 12th in 22:56.18, UW-Oshkosh’s Erica Munyan 13th in 22:58.26 and UW-La Crosse’s Natalie Powell 14th in 23:00.48.
UW-Oshkosh’s Leah Rendflesh took 15th in 23:03.81, UW-La Crosse’s Hannah Beilke 16th in 23:04.94, UW-La Crosse’s Katie Henriksen 17th in 23:23.82, UW-La Crosse’s Andrea Brekken 18th in 23:24.71, UW-La Crosse’s Mackenzie Keller-Miller 19th in 23:28.79 and UW-Platteville’s Janelle Ferguson 20th in 23:29.03.
The top seven runners received All-WIAC first team recognition, while runners placing eight through 14 earned All-WIAC second team accolades. Individuals finishing 15 through 20 claimed honorable mention laurels.
UW-Whitewater’s Amy Kahl received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is sponsored by Badgerland Financial.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Clara Williamson; UW-La Crosse’s Elizabeth Frick; UW-Oshkosh’s Taylor Lindblad; UW-Platteville’s Kimberly Gutierrez; UW-River Falls’ Abby Fouts; UW-Stevens Point’s Holly Winberg; UW-Stout’s Morgan Sweeney; and UW-Whitewater’s Mary Kate Bernier.
