MADISON, Wis.--D3sports.com is the recipient of the 2014 Tom Butler Award from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

The D3sports.com network consists of seven websites dedicated to covering Division III sports, with specific emphasis on football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and men's and women's ice hockey.  It has grown out of a single site, Division III Basketball Online, which Pat Coleman took over in 1997.

The sites combined for 34 million page views over the past 12 months and its rankings and All-American teams are recognized by the NCAA alongside those of the respective coaches' associations.

Pat Coleman, a former sports information director for Catholic University (D.C.) and the Capital Athletic Conference, was given the Jake Wade Award by the College Sports Information Directors of America in 2013.  It was the first time the award was given to anyone covering any level of college athletics aside from NCAA Division I.

The Tom Butler Award was established in 1998 and has been given annually to a representative of the print or electronic media for outstanding coverage of WIAC athletics.  The league’s sports information directors select the winner.  The award is dedicated to Tom Butler, who served the conference faithfully as its sports information director from 1967-96.
