--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the 23-time defending champion, own the advantage following the first of two days of competition at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Oshkosh Sports Complex on May 2.

The Eagles amassed 77 points to exceed the second-place total of 41 points by UW-Oshkosh.  UW-Whitewater is third with 39 points, UW-Platteville fourth with 34, UW-Stout fifth with 32, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 25, UW-Eau Claire seventh with 17, UW-Superior eighth with five and UW-River Falls ninth with three.

UW-La Crosse won two of the six individual events that were completed.  Dominique Neloms claimed the long jump with a leap of 23-10 1/4, while Jeffery Hill won the pole vault with a height of 16-0 1/2.

UW-Whitewater’s Dawson Miller established a conference meet record en route to winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  He won the event for the second straight year with a time of 8:59.12.

UW-Oshkosh’s Joe Brunner secured the hammer throw with a fling of 197-1.  The Titan quartet of Matt Lawrence, Charlie Scott, Brett DeNure and McKena Ramos won the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:41.70.

UW-Platteville’s Daniel Poh had a first-place toss of 192-10 in the javelin, while UW-Stout’s Patrick Jenkins was victorious in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:11.52.
