UW-Stevens Point’s Ladd Leads All-WIAC Men’s Ice Hockey Selections; UW-River Falls’ Freeman Named Coach of the Year

MADISON, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Garrett Ladd was selected the inaugural Player of the Year to lead the individuals chosen to the 2014 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Ice Hockey Team by the league coaches, while UW-River Falls head coach Steve Freeman was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Ladd currently leads the WIAC with 40 points, 18 goals, 22 assists and a plus/minus of +25.  He has registered three power-play goals and one short-handed tally.  Ladd has recorded at least one point in 20 of 27 contests, including 15 performances of two-plus points and a season-high four points against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Nov. 8.  He was a honorable mention selection a year ago.

Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included:  UW-River Falls’ Scott Lewan and UW-Superior’s Pat Dalbec.  Both individuals also collected first team recognition in 2012, along with UW-Stevens Point’s Brandon Jaeger.

Freeman earned the coaching honor for the ninth time in his career and second time in the last three seasons after directing the Falcons to a 15-9-3 record.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.
