UW-La Crosse Leads Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the two-time defending champion, owns a slim lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 20.
The Eagles compiled 233 points during the opening day of events. UW-Whitewater is second with 222 points, UW-Eau Claire third with 220, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 195, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 75 and UW-River Falls sixth with 55.
UW-La Crosse’s Allie Yemm won her second straight crown in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.57.
UW-Stevens Point’s Amanda Walker established a conference meet record of 4:58.74 en route to winning the 500-yard freestyle. She was also a member of the triumphant 200-yard freestyle relay squad that included Emily Neinhaus, Amy Boritzke and Alexa Pronga and posted a time of 1:34.92.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the UW-Whitewater foursome of Kendall Thompson, Amy Spaay, Kayla Martin and Kelsey Kohlbeck teamed to record a first-place time of 3:49.68. The Warhawks’ Sierra Becker was victorious in one-meter diving for the second consecutive season with a score of 443.40.
UW-Eau Claire’s Allison Hable claimed the 50-yard freestyle with a performance of 23.66.
