UW-La Crosse Sprints To Lead At Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship
STEVENS POINT, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the 11-time defending champion, holds the lead following the first of two days of events at the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship at UW-Stevens Point’s Multi Activity Center on Feb. 22.
The Eagles compiled 55.50 points during the first day of competition to exceed UW-Oshkosh’s second-place total of 46 points. UW-Whitewater is third with 32.50 points, UW-Platteville fourth with 22.50, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 17, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 7.50, UW-Stout seventh with 7, UW-Superior eighth with 6 and UW-River Falls ninth with 1.
UW-La Crosse won two individuals titles and one relay crown enroute to its first-day advantage. Isaac Vazquez became just the second individual in league history to earn three consecutive first-place medals in the long jump with a conference meet record leap of 24-11. Former Eagle Bill Patza accomplished the feat from 1980-82.
Bryan Klister claimed the pole vault with a height of 16-1 3/4 and the distance medley relay team of Jacob Peterson, Cyrus Mason, Travis Gallick and Tyler Heinz was victorious with a time of 10:10.46.
UW-Eau Claire’s Aaron Easker earned the 5,000-meter run with a conference meet record time of 14:24.4, while UW-Oshkosh’s Nick Baatz had a first-place heave of 58-10 in the shot put.
