UW-La Crosse Owns Lead At Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse expanded its advantage following the second of three days of competition at the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 15.

The defending champion Eagles have amassed 611 points at the championship to exceed UW-Stevens Point’s second-place sum of 469 points.  UW-Eau Claire is third with 423 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 384, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 129 and UW-River Falls sixth with 113.

The Eagles earned three individual first-place finishes and one relay crown during the second day of events.

Andrea Kolitsch successfully defended her title in the 100-yard butterfly with a conference meet record time of 56.57.  Brooke Reynolds was triumphant in the 100-yard backstroke for the second straight year with a time of 56.92, while Sara Zemanovic won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.11.

Reynolds and Zemanovic joined Abby Diehl and Grace Jarzemsky as members of the triumphant 800-yard freestyle relay team that produced a time of 7:44.07.

UW-Whitewater’s Amy Spaay established a conference meet record of 1:00.78 en route to winning the 100-yard breaststroke.  Lauren Lanphere was victorious in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:34.46.

UW-Stevens Point won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.82.  Ashley Majewski, Cassie Matthys, Alexa Pronga and Amy Boritzke comprised the first-place unit.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Taylor Kindschy; UW-La Crosse’s Dayna Johnson; UW-Oshkosh’s Emily Shandley; UW-River Falls’ Sarah Koch; UW-Stevens Point’s Ashley Majewski; and UW-Whitewater’s Anne Leupold.
