MADISON, Wis.--A capacity crowd of over 1,400 individuals attended the WIAC Centennial Banquet held this past Saturday evening at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. The banquet represented just one of a number of activities and events associated with the WIAC Centennial Celebration, many of which will take place during the 2012-13 academic year in recognition of the conference’s 100th year.
“The response to the banquet was overwhelming and is indicative of the conference’s status as the most accomplished Division III conference in NCAA history and its special place in the annals of Wisconsin sports,” stated WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner. “The fact that there were over 1,400 banquet attendees from all corners of Wisconsin as well as 22 other states and Canada is a testament to how special this conference has been and always will be,” added Karner.
The evening featured a video presentation that chronicled many of the people and events that led to the formation and evolution of the conference over the past 100 years as well as recognition of the coaches and student-athletes selected for the conference’s All-Time Teams. The evening also included the induction of the inaugural class of the WIAC Hall of Fame.
