WHITEWATER, Wis.--Defending conference champion University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh leads the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship following the first of two days of competition at UW-Whitewater’s Foster Track on May 4.

The Titans compiled 57 points to exceed the second-place sum of 48 points by UW-River Falls. UW-La Crosse is third with 38 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 37, UW-Stout fifth with 31, UW-Whitewater sixth with 21, UW-Platteville seventh with 20, UW-Stevens Point eighth with 18 and UW-Superior ninth with three.

UW-Oshkosh’s Alexia Child won the hammer throw with a conference meet record fling of 192-8, while Danielle Carrigan was victorious pole vault with a height of 12-1 1/4.

UW-River Falls had three individuals secure titles, including Becky Ponick winning the javelin for the third time in her career with a toss of 131-8. She claimed the event in 2008 and 2011, and became just the second individual in WIAC history to win the event three times, joining UW-Stevens Point’s Becky Clarke (2001-02, 04).

The Falcons’ Katie Rydeen and Alicia Potting became the first individuals in program listings to win their respective events. Rydeen posted a first-place time of 11:11.12 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Potting had a leap of 18-8 in the long jump.

The UW-Platteville foursome of Natalie Jozik, Jackie Cahill, Ann Tank and Deidre Dillman won the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:20.07, while teammate Danielle Kunkel secured the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:56.72.
