UW-La Crosse Tops Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the 21-time defending champion, leads the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship following the first of two days of competition at UW-Whitewater’s Foster Track on May 4.
The Eagles amassed 63 team points to surpass the second-place total of 50 points by UW-Oshkosh. UW-Stout is third with 41 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 36, UW-Whitewater fifth with 29, UW-Platteville sixth with 25, UW-River Falls seventh with 18 and UW-Stevens Point eighth with 11.
UW-La Crosse’s Isaac Vazquez won the long jump with a leap of 25-0 1/2, while the Eagles’ 4x800-meter relay team posted a first-place time of 7:41.57.
UW-Stout’s Daniel Drewek captured the pole vault for the fourth time in his career. He also won the event in 2008-09 and 2011 to become the first individual in WIAC archives to claim post four first-place finishes in the event.
The Blue Devils’ Tim Nelson was victorious in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:58.33.
UW-Oshkosh’s Pete Delzer won the hammer throw with a fling of 196-6, while UW-Platteville’s Mark Niemann secured the javelin with a toss of 185-10 and UW-River Falls’ Jared Brandenburg claimed the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:17.14. Brandenburg is the first individual in program history to win the event.
