MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Sam Barber was selected the Player of the Year to lead the 10 individuals selected to the 2012 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Basketball Team by the league coaches, while UW-Superior’s Donald Mulhern was chosen the Coach of the Year.

Barber leads the WIAC with a .442 three-point field goal percentage, while ranking second with 14.0 points per game, sixth with a .802 free-throw percentage, seventh with 0.77 blocked shots per contest and eighth with a .465 field goal percentage. She has reached double figures in scoring in 18 of the 26 games that she has played this year, including a season-high 34 points against UW-La Crosse on Feb. 4. Barber also owns four double-doubles (points-rebounds) with a season-best 13 rebounds against Millikin University (Ill.) on Nov. 22.

She becomes the fourth individual in program history to win the league’s Player of the Year honor, joining Kari Groshek (2002), Amanda Nechuta (2004, 2005) and Britta Petersen (2011).

Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago included: UW-River Falls’ Tiffany Gregorich and UW-Stevens Point’s Ashley Averkamp. Gregorich also added first team accolades in 2010.

Named to the five-member All-Defensive Team were: UW-Eau Claire’s Ellen Plendl, UW-River Falls’ Maranda Dohrn, UW-Stevens Point’s Brooke Allen, UW-Superior’s Sally Linzmeier and UW-Whitewater’s Kaitlyn Thill. Plendl and Thill were recognized for the second straight season.

UW-Superior’s Donald Mulhern was selected the Coach of the Year after directing the Yellowjackets to a 12-14 record, including a 5-11 WIAC mark. The 12 overall wins represent the most since the 1983-84 squad also had 12 victories, while the five conference wins were the most since the 1994-95 unit totaled six. The Yellowjackets also amassed a school record five-game winning streak during the 2011-12 campaign.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
