UW-Stevens Point Expands Advantage At Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point expanded its margin following the second of three days of competition at the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 17.
The Pointers, who have claimed 12 straight league titles, have compiled 565 points to top UW-La Crosse’s second-place total of 419. UW-Whitewater is third with 380, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 339, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 175 and UW-River Falls sixth with 122.
UW-Stevens Point’s Joey Clapp claimed the 100-yard backstroke for the second straight year with a time of 51.12. He was also a member of the triumphant 200-yard medley relay squad that produced a conference meet record time of 1:30.57. Ian Girdley, Alex Loftus and Ryan Farmer completed the foursome.
The Pointers also won the 800-yard freestyle relay as Farmer, Sam Davy, Daniel Lynam and Luuk Dekkers had a time of 6:51.90.
UW-Eau Claire’s Alex Card won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.12, while UW-La Crosse’s Garrett Runing captured the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.75. UW-Oshkosh’s Dalton Anderson produced a first-place time of 49.90 in the 100-yard butterfly and UW-Whitewater’s John Devroy secured the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:05.98. Devroy is the first Warhawk in program history to win the event.
