UW-Eau Claire Emerges With First Day Advantage At Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire holds the lead following the first of three days of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 16.
The Blugolds compiled 236 points, while UW-La Crosse is second with 217, two-time defending champion UW-Stevens Point third with 179, UW-Whitewater fourth with 95, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 66 and UW-River Falls sixth with 52.
UW-Eau Claire’s Julia Olson earned the 50-yard freestyle for the second straight year with a time of 23.79, while Angie Bakula claimed the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.65.
UW-La Crosse’s Danielle Ellingson was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley with a conference meet record time of 2:05.41. She also won the event at the 2009 WIAC championship.
Ellingson was also a member of the triumphant 400-yard medley team that included Brooke Reynolds, Andrea Kolitsch and Abby Diehl. The foursome posted a time of 3:49.52.
The UW-Stevens Point quartet of Ashley Majewski, Amy Boritzke, Kelly Kading and Andrea Wagner took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:35.22.
