UW-Whitewater Leads Women’s Golf Championship

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater leads the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship following the first of three days of competition at Bull’s Eye Country Club.
The Warhawks compiled 344 strokes over the first 18 holes of the contest to exceed UW-Stout’s second-place total of 351 strokes. UW-Eau Claire, the three-time defending champion, is third with 352 strokes, UW-Platteville fourth with 365, UW-River Falls fifth with 372, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 378 and UW-Oshkosh seventh with 382.
Individually, UW-Whitewater’s Nicole Westcott leads the 48-player field with 82 strokes. UW-Platteville’s Kellsey Welter, UW-Stevens Point’s Kayla Johnson, UW-Stout’s Brittany McNett-Emmerich and UW-Whitewater’s Megan Ramp are tied for second with 83. UW-Eau Claire’s Kate Engler is sixth with 85, while UW-Eau Claire’s Catherine Wagner, UW-River Falls’ Gillian McDonald, UW-Stevens Point’s McKenna Prestigiacomo and UW-Stout’s Mariah Chesley are tied for seventh with 86.
The 54-hole event will resume October 6 with tee times scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
