UW-Stevens Point Secures Share of Women’s Basketball Title

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point secured at least a share of the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women’s basketball championship with a 67-59 triumph over UW-Eau Claire at Berg Gym Feb. 9.
UW-Stevens Point has compiled a 13-0 record against WIAC adversaries, while UW-La Crosse currently sits in second place in the conference ledger with an 11-3 mark. The league crown for the Pointers is the fifth in program history and second in the last three seasons.
The Eagles can split the title with the Pointers by winning their final two contests (at UW-River Falls, vs. UW-Stevens Point) and UW-Stevens Point losing its three games (vs. UW-River Falls, at UW-Platteville, at UW-La Crosse).
UW-Stevens Point was the preseason favorite of the conference’s sports information directors to win this year’s league trophy.
