UW-Oshkosh Claims Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship
MENOMONIE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh claimed the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship that was held at UW-Stout’s Sports and Fitness Center Feb. 25-26.
The Titans earned the 12th first-place trophy in program listings with 160 points to exceed the second-place sum of 130.50 points by UW-Eau Claire. Four-time defending champion UW-La Crosse placed third with 108.50 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 99 points, UW-River Falls fifth with 63 points, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 61 points, UW-Platteville seventh with 46 points, UW-Stout eighth with 30 points and UW-Superior ninth with four points.
UW-Oshkosh secured seven individual titles and one relay crown at the championship. Camille Davis registered a pair of first-place performances, claiming the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.16 and the 200-meter dash for the second straight year with a meet record time of 24.94.
Christy Cazzola and Holly Ozanich also won two events each for the Titans. Cazzola secured the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.23 and the one-mile run with a time of 4:54.03. Ozanich claimed the 20-pound weight throw for the second straight year with a fling of 47-9 1/4 and the shot put with a heave of 47-9 1/4.
Danielle Carrigan established a conference meet record of 12-9 1/2 en route to winning the pole vault.
The 4x400-meter relay quartet of Davis, Cazzola, Lisha Hanson and Brittany Hass produced a first-place time of 3:58.34.
UW-Whitewater’s Sara Poppe successfully defended her title in the long jump with a leap of 17-3 1/4, while Shelby Demos secured the high jump with a height of 5-6 and JoLyn Owen won the pentathlon with 3,353 points.
UW-Eau Claire’s Ashlyn Mauer claimed the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:00.48 and Kim Miresse was victorious in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32. Miresse was also a member of the first-place 4x200-meter relay team with Kat Wesely, Talisa Emberts and Corinna Saager. The quartet compiled a time of 1:45.70.
The Blugolds’ distance medley relay squad of Maria Peloquin Hally Ahler, Taylor McMillan and Alyssa Sybilrud had a first-place time of 12:32.04.
UW-La Crosse’s Maggie May produced a first-place leap of 36-9 in the triple jump, while UW-Platteville’s Ann Tank was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a clocking of 57.62 and UW-Stevens Point’s Claire Roberts claimed the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:32.64.
UW-Oshkosh’s Holly Ozanich was the recipient of the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was selected for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Liz Amici, UW-La Crosse’s Katlin Genthe, UW-Oshkosh’s Brittany Haas, UW-Platteville’s Alli Tank, UW-River Falls’ Brittni LaFontsee, UW-Stevens Point’s Casey Mitchell, UW-Stout’s Jill Utzinger, UW-Superior’s Christina Micheletti and UW-Whitewater’s Loryn Kressin.
