MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Emily Gerber and UW-Stout’s Courtney Tideman were chosen the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, to lead the 22 individuals selected to the 2011 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Soccer Team by the league coaches. In addition, Warhawks head coach Greg Henschel was chosen the Coach of the Year.
This marks the first season that the conference has provided an offensive and defensive award. Gerber won the league’s overall Player of the Year honor in 2009 and 2010. She leads the WIAC with 37 points and 11 assists, while ranking second with 13 goals. Gerber has recorded at least one point in 15 of 20 matches, including a season-high six against North Park University (Ill.) on Sept. 9. She is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 129 points on 54 goals and 21 assists. Her 54 goals also top the Warhawk record book.
Tideman spearheaded a Blue Devil defense that posted eight shutouts during the year and allowed an average of one goal per contest. She contributed seven goals, including two game-winning efforts, and two assists. Tideman was also a first team selection in 2008. Her career statistics include 30 points on 13 goals and four assists.
Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Rachel Nerison; UW-La Crosse’s Sarah Joost and Saskia Taylor; UW-River Falls’ Carlin Bunting and UW-Whitewater’s Christina Tooren. UW-La Crosse’s Jamie Wiepz and UW-River Falls’ Eryn Lansverk were first team choices in 2009.
UW-Whitewater head coach Greg Henschel secured the Coach of the Year honor after piloting the Warhawks to their second consecutive conference title and first-ever NCAA championship bid. He is in his 12th season at UW-Whitewater and owns a 126-89-13 record.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
