UW-Eau Claire Takes Lead At Women’s Golf Championship

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire improved its score by 15 strokes from the first day to take the advantage at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship at Bull’s Eye Country Club.
The Blugolds, who are the defending champions of the event, own a two-day, 36-hole total of 669 strokes to top UW-Stevens Point’s second-place sum of 674 strokes. UW-Whitewater is third with 676, UW-Platteville fourth with 693, UW-Stout fifth with 716, UW-River Falls sixth with 742 and UW-Oshkosh seventh with 760.
UW-Whitewater held a nine-stroke lead over UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point following the first day.
Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Catherine Wagner leads the 51-player field with 162 strokes after tallying 81 both days. Her teammate, Sara Mattes is second with 163 strokes. UW-Stevens Point’s Danelle Olson and UW-Eau Claire’s Maggie Lattery are tied for third with 164, while UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Swift and UW-Stevens Point’s Kayla Johnson are tied for fifth with 166. UW-Whitewater’s Mary Donohue and Gianna Tenuta are tied for seventh with 168 and UW-Eau Claire’s Jamie Hauser and UW-Whitewater’s Melanie Helgeson are tied for ninth with 169.
The 54-hole championship will finish on Oct. 10 with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
