UW-Eau Claire’s Hall Secures Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Award
MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Kevin Hall has been named the 2008 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete.
A senior from Green Bay, Wis. (Preble), Hall is majoring in English comprehensive teaching and maintains a 3.82 grade point average. He claimed All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in 2006 and is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Hall has been recognized on UW-Eau Claire’s Dean’s List and earned Academic Distinction three consecutive years.
He is a three-time team captain and earned his team’s Most Valuable Runner award during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Blugold Award, an honor given to an all-around committed student-athlete and teammate.
Hall is a member of UW-Eau Claire’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Alpha Lambda Delta and Kappa Delta Pi. He has served as a volunteer in a reading program and a tutor for elementary and middle school students.
Also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award were UW-River Falls’ Jason Phillippi (Sr., Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) and UW-Stout’s Matthew Kennedy (Sr., Waunakee, Wis.).
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Max Sparger, who served as commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference from July, 1971 - July, 1993.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be in their last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
