Flora Named UW-Superior Men’s Basketball Interim Head Coach
SUPERIOR, Wis.--Head assistant coach Logan Flora has been named interim head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Superior men's basketball team, Athletic Director Steve Nelson announced August 5.
Flora takes the place of Dave Buchanan, who resigned in July to take the head coaching position at Carroll University (Wis.).
"We're grateful to Dave for building a strong foundation for our team. Logan can provide consistency to move us forward to the next level of competition," Nelson said. "Logan is well aware of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and what it entails, and he's ready for the experience of being head coach. We're pleased he's accepted the position."
Nelson said UW-Superior will conduct a national search for a head coach during the coming year.
Flora came to UW-Superior last season to serve as Buchanan's chief assistant. Before that, he spent two seasons as Director of Basketball Operations at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay. During his time in Green Bay, he administrated day-to-day operations in the men's basketball program, including videotape exchange, coordinating team travel, academic monitoring and oversight of the team managers and summer camps.
Before going to Green Bay, Flora served as a graduate assistant coach at Northern State University, an NCAA Division II school in Aberdeen, S.D., coached by Don Meyer, one of the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA history. The Wolves compiled a 27-6 record in Flora's one season with the team, advancing to the Sweet 16 round of the national tournament.
Flora also coached the Fox Valley Skillz AAU team for four years, compiling a 63-27 record during the three years that he was the head coach. His additional coaching experience includes working at Appleton West, Appleton Xavier and Oshkosh North high schools as a head freshman, head junior varsity and varsity assistant coach.
Flora is a 2005 graduate of UW-Oshkosh with a degree in exercise science and health promotion. He attended Appleton West High School, where he lettered in football, track and basketball.
The Yellowjackets play their first game of the season on the road in Madison in a Nov. 11 exhibition against the UW-Madison Badgers. They open at home Nov. 21 against Martin Luther College.
