Blugolds Stretch Advantage At Women’s Golf Championship

ARKDALE, Wis.--Cold and windy conditions ruled the day, yet University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was able to extend its advantage at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship at Northern Bay Golf Resort & Marina.

The Blugolds entered the day with a 19-stroke lead and stretched their margin to 32 strokes after compiling a 330 during the second 18 holes of the competition.  UW-Eau Claire owns a 36-hole total of 646 strokes.

UW-Whitewater sits in second place with 678 strokes.  UW-Stout is third with 702, while two-time defending champion UW-Stevens Point is fourth with 703, UW-Platteville fifth with 733, UW-River Falls sixth with 761 and UW-Oshkosh seventh with 762.

Defending WIAC individual champion Katie Maurer of UW-Eau Claire tops the 45-person field with 154 strokes after shooting 77 in the first two rounds.  UW-Eau Claire’s Catherine Wagner, who held a two-stroke lead after the first day, is second with 159 strokes.  UW-Stevens Point’s Jessica Urban is third with 161, UW-Stout’s Becca Eggers and UW-Whitewater’s Chelsea Davis are tied for fourth with 164, UW-Eau Claire’s Sara Mattes and UW-Whitewater’s Amy Peters are tied for sixth with 165, UW-Eau Claire’s Torie Ives and UW-Whitewater’s Gianna Tenuta are tied for eighth with 166 and UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Swift is 10th with 167.

The final 18 holes of the league championship will be held on Oct. 11 with tee times beginning at 11 a.m.
