UW-Eau Claire Leads Women’s Golf Championship
ARKDALE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire bolted to the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship at Northern Bay Golf Resort & Marina.
The Blugolds accumulated an 18-hole total of 316 strokes to outdistance UW-Whitewater’s second-place sum of 335. UW-Stout is third with 344, while two-time defending champion UW-Stevens Point is fourth with 358, UW-Platteville fifth with 361, UW-River Falls sixth with 374 and UW-Oshkosh seventh with 379.
Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Catherine Wagner tops the 45-player field with 75 strokes. Defending WIAC champion Katie Maurer of UW-Eau Claire is second with 77, while UW-Whitewater’s Chelsea Davis is third with 78, UW-Stevens Point’s Jessica Urban fourth with 79, UW-Stout’s Becca Eggers fifth with 80, UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Swift sixth with 81 and UW-Whitewater’s Amy Peters seventh with 82. UW-Eau Claire’s Torie Ives, Jamie Hauser, Katie Swift and Sara Mattes, along with UW-River Falls’ Kelly Gordh are tied for eighth with 83.
Competition will resume with another 18 holes on Oct. 10 beginning at 9 a.m.
