Warhawks Win National Championship

NCAA FootballMADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater secured its second national championship in the last three seasons with a 38-28 triumph over Mount Union College (Ohio) in the NCAA Division III Football Championship title contest - the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl - in Salem, Va., on Dec. 19.

The Warhawks, who claimed the national crown in 2007, were facing the Purple Raiders in the national title bout for the fifth consecutive year.

UW-Whitewater’s national championship is the fourth by a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) football program.  UW-La Crosse earned first-place trophies in 1992 and 1995.

The national crown is the second earned a WIAC school during the 2009-10 academic year.  UW-Eau Claire secured the women’s cross country crown in November.
