RELEASED: Wednesday, January 13, 2009 UW-Whitewater’s Leipold Claims AFCA and Fieldturf Coach of the Year Honors
Leipold also earned both coaching prizes following the 2007 season. The AFCA honor is determined by a vote of active AFCA members (coaches at four-year schools), while the Fieldturf award is decided by company representatives and presented by Howie Long. Leipold directed the Warhawks to the first 15-0 record in program history and their second national championship in the past three seasons. He is in his third season in charge of the squad and owns a 42-3 record, including 20-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. # # # # #

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football head coach Lance Leipold has been named the 2009 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year. He also was recently announced as the 2009 Fieldturf NCAA Division III Coach of the Year.
