Warhawks Eliminate Pioneers to Earn Rematch with Pointers UW-Platteville
needed one more amazing comeback to keep their postseason dreams alive,
but UW-Whitewater and ace pitcher Greg Reinhard put a close to the
Pioneers’ season. The Warhawks defeated the Pioneers 12-1 in an
elimination game at the WIAC Tournament in Wisconsin Rapids. Reinhard
limited the Pioneers to just one run on four hits and retired the final
nine Pioneer batters of the game in order. He struck out nine batters
and improved his season record to 9-0. Eddie Admundson provided the pop
at the plate for the Warhawks going four-for-five, with one run batted
in and stolen base. Dan Gnatzig picked up three hits for the Warhawks
including a double. Aaron Guilbault and Greg Harder both homered for the
top-ranked team in the country. UW-Whitewater tallied runs in every
inning but the first in defeating the Pioneers for the second time in
two days. Mike Davis
took the loss for the Pioneers, giving up six earned runs in four
innings pitched. Jason Watson stole his 38th base of the season, tops in
the WIAC. UW-Whitewater advances to the tournament championship game and will face UW-Stevens Point at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pointers can win the tournament with a victory, while UW-Whitewater would need to win Saturday night, and then defeat the Pointers again on Sunday. UW-Platteville ends their season with a record of 22-21.
