UW-Whitewater advanced to its fourth consecutive Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Baseball Tournament Championship
game with a 6-4 victory over UW-La Crosse Saturday night at Witter Field
in Wisconsin Rapids.
The Warhawks (30-12) will play either UW-Stevens Point or UW-La Crosse in the championship game Sunday, May 14 at 1 p.m. The Pointers and Eagles will face-off in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Sunday. Adam Dominick pitched a complete-game for UW-Whitewater, going 9.0 innings, allowing six hits, four runs (three earned) and seven walks while striking out 11. The Warhawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Jordan Stine was hit-by-pitch by Eagles' starter Joe Bemis and scored on Eddie Adamson's two-run home run. UW-Whitewater added four runs in the fifth with Adamson and Jason Rutz each having an RBI single. UW-L (22-18) cut the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth on Trevor Wallace's two-run single scoring Mike Schmidt and Justin Bach. The Eagles scored a run in the sixth to make it 6-3 as Schmidt had an RBI double scoring Tony Peterson. Bach had an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth scoring pinch-runner Matt Kitzke. Joe Bemis suffered the loss for UW-L, pitching 4.2, allowing eight hits, six runs and three walks. Ross Benitz allowed one hit and was removed from the game after being hit in the lip by a Rutz single. Jake Beitlich went 4.1 for the Eagles, allowing three hits with five strikeouts. Adamson finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored for UW-Whitewater while Ben Prather went 3-for-4. Rutz and Bill Gorman had two each for the Warhawks. Bach finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for UW-L.
